Ref pose sketch

This is how i am thinking of placing the foliage around at the moment. Still have to think about what i really want to do with the back ground.

  1. The figure placement and composition are working pretty well for this. I like the interaction of the hair with the background too. I do think there are some areas for improvement though. I can't quite make visual sense of the lower/squiggly section of hair that is leading into the background, meaning I can't tell where on the figure it's attached (head? is it a tail?). I like that it leads into the background to give the picture some depth, but it's a little confusing so far. The figure's hands at this point are really tiny, I know it's still a sketch but be aware of it for the final execution.

If you're trying to add more depth to the picture, have more overlapping. Think in terms of foreground-middleground-background. Remember atmospheric perspective too, even if you keep things flat and graphic you can still have the objects in the background have less contrast to show distance.

  2. Yes, I can definitely see some confusion about the depth in this piece. Primarily in that mare bum. It kinda stacks up instead of showing it's one body. The pose is great and I really love your colors! There's a good flow and motion too, it shows the personality of the character well.

  3. op... and horse anatomy reference round the 'chest' of the horse would do! It looks a bit too much like a human leg which might be where the disconnect was.

  4. This is actually a nice sketch of this, and I didn't know that it was suppose to be a horse... but either way, I like the composition of the image by how it flows throughout the page. Are you planning on adding other details to it? or just add minor ones?
