Here is my refined sketch of the minotaur in the maze, I'm sorry for the small image... but I hope you guys can make out a lil or what I'm trying to do. I was working on the perspective to focus on the minotaur, and the spread out the maze to show how vast it is. I was thinking of either making the walls as a bush or just a brick wall (like from the roman times) I don't really know about that part, but anyway... would anyone like to critique about it?

I'm really impressed with your progress on this one Courtney, the perspective is leaps and bounds better now. I think you could give the Minotaur a much more interesting and dynamic pose (rather than just standing straight with arms at his sides). I still think, too, that he needs to be pulled out of the corner just a bit (remember the rule of thirds we talked about). My vote would be for a stone maze.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget: I want to see this in full value, right now this is just line.
Thank you very much! When I was sketching out the image, I did work in a 3 value scale. It's probably because of the brightness when I scanned it... but ok then, I left a little area where you can see the light circle sketch for the maze... so I can extend the image a little more.
DeleteI agree about the pose of the creature. The landscape looks terrific and I can imagine that big guy is very proud of his gardening skills ;)
ReplyDeleteAh. but in all seriousness. Definitely make it speak to us. Right now I'm not getting a lot of narrative from this piece because the primary subject doesn't show a lot of flow and emotion in his posture. Think about how you want people to see the minotaur; frightening, solemn, biding and waiting, frustrated, etc. You could go so many ways! But this is definitely a good midpoint.
